Kohima: The Eastern Nagaland Sumi Students Union is backing the Chakhesang Public Organisation. They demand the immediate termination of Ratna Infrastructure Projects Pvt. Ltd. The contractor failed to finish the NH 29 Package II road project. This two lane link runs from Chakhabama to Kikruma. It sits on the vital Kohima to Jessami corridor.
Construction started in 2019. The project missed its original June 30, 2022 deadline. ENSSU president Vihepu K Yeptho and general secretary Gihuka V Chophy slammed the stagnation. They claim the road is an indispensable lifeline for Eastern Nagaland. It connects districts like Kiphire and Shamator to major hubs. People currently face brutal travel conditions. Many residents from Sitimi and Seyochung must detour through Zunheboto. This adds costs and wasted time. The union noted, "The continued stagnation of this strategically vital project was a matter of grave public concern, imposing an unjust burden on the people of Kiphire and Shamator districts."
Students suffer the most. Travel for exams and education remains dangerous and expensive. The union also blasted the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited for its poor oversight. Empty promises are not enough. They want accountability. The union now supports filing a Public Interest Litigation before the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench. Authorities must finish the work by September 2026. The people of Nagaland will not wait forever.
