Imphal: Kohima District Magistrate B Henok Buchem ordered an immediate ban on heavy vehicles bound for Manipur. The trucks cannot enter Kohima district until further notice. This order follows a joint inspection by police, government officials, drivers, and village reps who found critical road failures.

The stretch from New Capital Complex Area to Kidima-Pudunamei Junction is falling apart. The Kohima Bypass Package-3 has active sinking zones, rendering it unserviceable. Officials expect repairs to take at least 15 days. Additionally, the NH-29 route between DBS and the BSF Camp at Keyake shows heavy damage from similar sinking issues. Heavy motor vehicles must avoid these areas.

A major landslide struck the Phesama Sinking Zone on August 11, destroying the road along the Kohima-Mao section of NH-2. The district administration warned, "The affected stretch has been declared unfit for both vehicular and pedestrian movement."

Drivers must divert through Peren district while following local regulations. Light motor vehicles may still use the Phesama-Kisama/Kigwema diversion route via Rhododendron Resort. Safety remains a concern. Pedestrians must stay away from these zones due to the ongoing risk of falling earth and shifting ground.
