KSU Detains Ten People at Umshyrpi Bridge

Shillong: Khasi Students' Union members from the Mawprem and Upper Shillong circles cornered ten people at the Umshyrpi Bridge on Tuesday. The group, which included several children, failed to produce valid documents. Union members grilled the travelers to determine if they held legal residency in Meghalaya or Indian citizenship. They could not prove who they were.

KSU leadership acted fast. They handed the entire group over to the Jhalupara Police Outpost for formal identity verification. The union issued a statement demanding a deep investigation into the matter. They want police to figure out exactly why the group was moving through the state. The union stated, "The individuals were intercepted after they failed to produce valid documents establishing their identity or residential status."
