Shillong: The KSU Central Executive Council fired back at local law enforcement. They served legal notice on City Superintendent of Police Dangsan Khyriem and East Khasi Hills Traffic Superintendent Hari Prasant MR. This action follows reports that the officers linked the union to two men arrested after a crash. The union wants a response within 15 days.
Trouble started September 18 near the Samkhamti Petrol Pump in Urkaliar. Police conducted a routine naka-checking operation. Two men on a scooty blew past the checkpoint. They hit East Khasi Hills Additional Superintendent of Police Lovish Garg, causing him injury. Police grabbed the pair and seized their vehicle. Courts have since seen the suspects.
KSU information secretary Pynshai Kupar Dkhar claims the police lack evidence linking these men to the group. He says criminal acts fall on the individuals alone. The union argues that police comments damaged their reputation and misled the public. Dkhar noted, "The union’s objection was not aimed at obstructing the investigation or judicial proceedings."
The legal filing demands a formal retraction and public apology from the police. It also insists officers stop making any further false or derogatory claims about the KSU. Failure to comply will lead to civil or criminal action. The union expects the police to stick to facts supported by evidence rather than speculation.
