Shillong: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority launched a Garo version of the NALSA theme song, Ek Mutthi Aasman, and a new animated short film in Tura. Officials debuted these tools during a Mega Camp-cum-Seminar on Mediation and Community Mediation at Jengjal this past Friday. The MSLSA worked with the High Court of Meghalaya Mediation Committee to organize the event.
The animated film promotes local mediation as a direct alternative to the grind of formal litigation. It specifically targets land battles, neighbor feuds, and other common local disagreements. The goal remains simple. Resolve disputes locally to slash the time and cash spent on court cases. Justice H.S. Thangkhiew, Executive Chairman of MSLSA, and Justice W. Diengdoh, Chairman of the High Court Legal Services Committee, presided over the launch.
This work falls under the project Increasing Access to Justice through Community Mediation, funded by the Department of Justice, Government of India. The project aims to spark public interest in dialogue-based resolutions. During the event, Justice Thangkhiew noted, "The initiative seeks to encourage people to settle such matters amicably within their communities." Local residents, community leaders, government officials, and legal experts filled the venue for the announcement.
