High Court Appoints Mediator to Resolve Them Iew Mawlong Relocation Dispute

Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya has tapped a retired Gauhati High Court judge to settle the Them Iew Mawlong relocation dispute. Both the state government and the Harijan Panchayat Committee agreed to talk. The fight has dragged on for years.

A division bench led by Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh appointed Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma to lead the mediation. All parties must meet with him within the next two weeks. They will set future meeting dates once they sit down together.

The High Court Mediation Committee will handle the logistics for the sessions. The state government must pick up the tab for the entire process. The court expects progress before the next scheduled hearing, which is set for January 28, 2027.
