Ialong village sees water supply restoration hit 80 percent

Shillong: Water flows again in Ialong. More than 80 per cent of the village households now have a working water supply. S. Najiar, the Executive Engineer of the PHE Rural Water Supply Division in Jowai, confirmed this update in a formal affidavit filed on Thursday.

The court reviewed the document to check compliance with its October 8 order. Repairs are finished on the critical pipeline network connecting the main pumping station to the treatment plant and the treatment plant to the service tank. Crews are still hammering away at the remaining distribution lines.

Full service will return by November 30. "Work on the remaining distribution network currently under way," the affidavit stated. The High Court of Meghalaya accepted the timeline and pushed the next hearing for the public interest litigation to December 3.
