Shillong: American rapper Nelly will make his India debut in Shillong this November. He headlines the opening night of the two-day Cherry Blossom Festival at Madan Kurkalang in Bhoirymbong. The festival runs November 20 and 21. Nelly joins pop-rockers Boys Like Girls and singer Darshan Raval on the first day. Khalid, Swae Lee, Elliot James Reay, and Galantis take the stage on the second day.

Big names are coming. The festival leans into its 2026 theme, Year of Generations, to link older fans with younger crowds. Billboard and Variety are expected to cover Nelly's first performance in the country.

The action starts early. Organizers scheduled an International Music Summit for November 19 in partnership with India International Music Week. This gathering brings record labels, booking agents, and promoters to town. Local musicians can join workshops and panels to meet international industry players. These sessions feature artists from the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project.

The festival adds a new contest called Cherry Blossom FIT CHECK. Participants compete for a total cash prize of Rs 20 lakh. Entry happens online or at the venue, with winners named on the main stage. The grounds also host a Red Bull Fan Zone, mixed martial arts, arm-wrestling, and cosplay.

Festival producer Rockski EMG credits the state government for the event's rise. It took home the Music Festival of the Year award at EEMAX Global in 2025. Rockski EMG said the event has created opportunities for local artistes, hospitality businesses and entrepreneurs, while bringing visitors to the state. Tickets are sold at www.rockskitickets.com.
