Shillong: Polish guitarist Marcin Patrzałek touched down in Shillong ahead of his August 12 performance at the Lariti Performing Centre in Mawkasiang. The show acts as a stop on his Art of Guitar Tour 2026. He brings a unique sound that blends fingerstyle techniques with orchestral and electronic layers. The drive from the airport left a deep mark on the musician. "Even on the drive here, just from the airport, I just couldn't stop taking videos on my phone through the window, just because of the nature, how exotic it is for me. So, I kind of feel like I'm in a different world right now," he said.
Patrzałek will spend his visit working with local buskers, students, and emerging artists. He is joining the Chief Minister's Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme to host workshops and jam sessions. The government hopes his presence opens doors for international touring acts. It also gives local talent a chance to learn new performance methods.
Wednesday's concert features several local acts supported by the government program. Performers include Chegim Durama from the Garo Hills, who holds the Achiever of the Month title. Leo Boys from the Khasi Hills and Larger Than 90 from the Jaintia Hills will also hit the stage. Other program-affiliated artists are scheduled to join them. The Department of Tourism organized the events to boost the local creative economy. Officials view this music ecosystem as a pillar of the state tourism strategy, which already includes paid busking spots for musicians at popular tourist sites.
