Shillong: The Cherry Blossom Festival hits the New Shillong Highland Grounds in Mawkhanu this November. Organizers locked in Khalid, Swae Lee, and pop-rock act Boys Like Girls for the two-day event. The concerts run November 20 and 21.
Young fans are buzzing about the headliners. Others feel left out. The shift toward a younger demographic has left older residents scratching their heads. Some locals argue the booking choices lack cross-generational appeal.
College student Baiaikara praised the headliners but noted the generation gap. She said, “I know Khalid and Swae Lee, and I am really excited about them. But I had to actually look up Boys Like Girls. I think a lot of people my age will still be interested, but not everyone will know all the artistes.”
Working professional Alexandria Rynjah admitted she wanted a broader variety of acts. Meanwhile, 55-year-old resident Annie expressed disconnect from the current roster. She suggested that adding legacy acts would better serve families.
Supporters push back against the complaints. They argue that stagnant bookings make the festival predictable. Moving the event to the Mawkhanu site aims to handle larger crowds. Attendees now wait to see if the new location can manage the influx of tourists and locals alike.
