Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma took the stage in Tura on Friday to champion youth development. He addressed the SPARK (School Programmes in Articulation, Resilience and Kindness) State Summit 2026 at the District Auditorium. The event drew students, teachers, and officials from across the state.
Sangma labeled the youth Meghalaya's greatest asset. He argued the state must channel their energy into productive paths. The summit provides platforms for students to build confidence and nurture individual talents. "Everybody has potential, and you have already won by being here," Sangma told the crowd.
The Chief Minister specifically pushed for the 2026 summit to move to Tura. He wanted students to experience the local traditions, music, cuisine, and natural beauty. This move encourages interaction between peers from different backgrounds. It builds a deeper understanding of the state's diverse communities.
The government's youth agenda remains aggressive. Sangma pointed to the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) as a major success. Roughly 8,000 artists currently earn a living through the program. They have executed over 20,000 shows globally, including performances in Japan and Germany. The CM also highlighted the CM Elevate program and fresh investments in the sports sector.
The summit agenda was packed. It included cultural performances, testimonials from teachers and students, and the official release of the SPARK Outcomes Report 2026. The government also handed out awards to District SPARK Stars. Sangma claimed other states are now copying Meghalaya's youth initiatives. He told the audience that money spent here is a direct investment in the next generation.
