Family Demands Arrest After Jharkhand High Court Lawyer Found Dead

Shillong: Tension grips Hazaribagh after the suspicious death of Jharkhand High Court advocate Anushka Chakraborty. Her body turned up hanging in Flat 304 of Gupta Complex in Bengali Para on Thursday. The location falls under the Hazaribagh Sadar police station limits. Her family insists this was murder.

Relatives, local residents, and fellow lawyers took to the streets to demand the immediate arrest of the victim's husband. Police are waiting on viscera results and a final post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death. A second post-mortem occurred on Friday at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital following family requests. The family refuses to hold last rites until police jail the husband. They threatened an indefinite sit-in at the police station if officers fail to act.

The husband initially called the emergency line to report the death. He claimed he was in Palamu and headed back to Hazaribagh. He vanished immediately after. Mukesh Kumar Rajak, who leads the Bara Bazar police outpost, said, "Raids are being conducted to trace the husband and that he is expected to be taken into custody soon."

Ramgarh MLA Mamta Devi joined the grieving family at the hospital. She demanded a high-level investigation and video recording of the autopsy to keep things transparent. Arguments broke out between Congress workers, lawyers, and officials on site. The victim had reportedly told her mother about severe marital disputes shortly before her death. Her family claims she suffered ongoing domestic harassment. Police say they are chasing all leads.
