Assam Editor Reports Phone Theft on Dehradun Express

Guwahati: Sunil Borah, Executive Editor of India Today NE, lost two mobile phones during a train ride to Uttarakhand. He and his family were sleeping when someone swiped the devices from beneath their pillows. The incident occurred on the Kathgodam-Dehradun Express, train number 14119.

Borah, his wife, and their son boarded the train at 8.10 pm on October 19. They occupied seats 37 and 39 in coach A2. The family, who reside in Beltola, Guwahati, were traveling on a spiritual retreat. Borah’s wife last used her iPhone 17 Pro at 1.49 am. When they woke up before arriving in Dehradun, the phone and Borah's dual-SIM OnePlus were gone.

The journalist filed a formal complaint with the Government Railway Police in Dehradun on October 20. The document includes the IMEI details and mobile numbers for both missing devices. Borah requested that police place the phones under surveillance to track them down. The complaint notes that the phones disappeared while the family slept in the air-conditioned coach, stating, "the incident has raised concerns about passenger safety and the security of personal belongings" even in secure areas.

It remains unclear if the police have opened a formal case or located the missing property. The stamped complaint reached the Station Officer, but the investigation status is pending.
