Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi wants Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar out of office. He claims the Election Commission of India has lost its constitutional authority. Gogoi alleges Kumar prioritizes loyalty to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his official duties.

Gogoi spoke out on October 23. He described the commission as hollowed out and manipulated. "Every day we are receiving reports and news that the Election Commission of India has been totally manipulated, has been hollowed out, has been emptied of its constitutional authority, of its constitutional duty," he stated. He added, "That person, Gyanesh Kumar, has to go."

The opposition plans a mock Parliament on October 28. Meanwhile, Congress continues its Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao rallies following a break for Navratri, Dussehra, and Durga Puja. Gogoi blasted the Prime Minister for constant attacks on the Congress and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

The MP argued that Modi ignores critical issues like the struggles of the middle class, students, and the crisis in Manipur. He also criticized the government for bringing up the 1970s Shimla Agreement when facing pressure. Gogoi claimed the current administration suffers from a lack of direction and vision, asserting the BJP only knows how to steal votes and elections.
