Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi attacked the Narendra Modi-led government on October 10. He claimed the administration is working to strip citizens of their right to dissent. Gogoi posted his frustration on X. He said, "After snatching the right to vote, the Modi-Shah government in Delhi seems determined to steal the right to dissent of the Indian citizen. Time has come to remove this government from power."
The INDIA bloc is planning a major protest march in Delhi for Monday, October 12. They are targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of vote theft. A delegation of opposition leaders intends to hand a memorandum to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. They want him to intervene in the mounting electoral dispute. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi promised that youth and party workers will return to the streets. The goal is to force a public debate on electoral integrity.
Congress general secretary K C Venugopal confirmed that the protest will draw in MPs and concerned citizens. The opposition demands Kumar resign immediately. This escalation follows a meeting between INDIA bloc leaders and President Droupadi Murmu. The opposition requested the repeal of all Assembly election results from the last two years. Police stopped an earlier march from Parliament to the Election Commission office on Tuesday. Rahul Gandhi held a sit-in at the Akashvani Bhawan complex afterward.
Opposition MPs marched to Jantar Mantar and Rajghat throughout Wednesday and Thursday. They continue to label the BJP and the Election Commission as threats to democracy. Tensions rose following an English daily report detailing internal splits within the Election Commission. Election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi reportedly raised objections over the past 10 months. Their concerns include the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The INDIA bloc has now finalized a joint action plan for nationwide rallies.
