Guwahati: Bajali and Dhubri police cornered a dacoit in Assam late Thursday night. They raided North Raipur Part I in Golokganj on September 25. Officers arrested Saharab Ali, also known as Kalu, for a smash-and-grab job at a Pathsala business. The robbery hit New Ma Manasa Jewellers on Howli Road back on September 14.
Burglars pried open the shop shutters under the cover of night. They trashed the place before swiping a haul of gold jewelry. The thieves ripped out the CCTV control box to hide their tracks. "Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether other people were involved in the robbery and to establish the extent of the alleged network," police said.
The joint task force hunted the suspect for ten days. They recovered gold ornaments worth lakhs and a stash of cash. Investigators also seized the tools used to break in and a four-wheeler tied to the crime. Cops are now digging to see if anyone else helped Kalu pull off the job.

Investigators expanded the net, pinning down a second suspect, Sohoruddin Sheikh, in the Kokrajhar district. Police confirmed the recovered haul is worth roughly one crore rupees, including a mix of gold and silver ornaments alongside 5.56 lakh rupees in cash. The seized four-wheeler is identified as a Kia car, registration number AS 06AD 1522.
Bajali MLA Dharmeswar Roy publicly honored the officers with gamochas for their success. Bajali Senior Superintendent of Police Pankaj Yadav confirmed the case remains active. We have recovered the cash and precious metals, but operations continue to track the remaining gang members and claw back the rest of the stolen property, Yadav said.
