Guwahati: Police in Assam's Dhubri district arrested two men in separate sexual assault cases involving minor girls. The incidents have shocked local residents.
In the first case, officers arrested 60-year-old shopkeeper Juran Ali. The arrest happened hours after a family filed a complaint on September 4 regarding an attack on their six-year-old daughter. The victim visited Ali’s shop in Chitalkati village under the Bandihana Police Outpost. Police claim Ali lured the child inside his store to assault her. She told her family immediately upon returning home. Investigating officer Kapil Uddin Ahmed led the operation to catch the suspect. A medical examination confirmed the assault, revealing physical injuries and bleeding. According to authorities, "The accused allegedly confessed to the offence during interrogation." Ali now sits in judicial custody.
A second case surfaced on September 6 in Nayer Alga village near Bilasipara. Police detained 50-year-old Abed Ali following allegations of sexual assault against a 13-year-old girl. Her family reported that Ali approached the girl near her house. He lured her away with the promise of a gift before taking her to a remote location to commit the crime. Investigators are questioning Ali now. They are working to piece together the exact sequence of events. Officials have not shared further details on this ongoing investigation.
