Guwahati: Police arrested Joon Das in Tamil Nadu for allegedly threatening to kill Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Lakhimpur Senior Superintendent of Police Gunendra Deka confirmed the arrest during a Friday press conference in North Lakhimpur. Officers apprehended Das at a home in the Dindigul district near the Ayakudi Police Station in Palani.

Das, a resident of Bebejia village in Ghilamara, led the Subansiri unit of the Veer Lachit Sena. Investigators linked him to a video uploaded to Facebook on October 18. In that footage, the accused threatened the Chief Minister and residents of his legislative constituency. He claimed they played a role in the death of singer Zubeen Garg last year.

Pankaj Doley filed an FIR on October 23, citing the post as inflammatory. SSP Deka stated, "the police were taking all necessary legal steps to ensure appropriate action against the accused." Authorities claim the video could incite violence. Das appeared before a judicial magistrate in Dhakuakhana on Friday. He is currently serving six days of police custody.
