Dhubri Police Bust Gold Theft Ring and Recover Stolen Loot

Guwahati: Dhubri police dismantled a theft ring this week. Officers arrested five people and recovered a stash of stolen gold. The crackdown followed a break-in at the home of Niki Ray, daughter of Rameswar Ray, located in Ward No. 1 of Dhubri town.

Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Pritam Das launched the operation on July 22. They quickly collared the prime suspect, 24-year-old Ramjan Ali Bhuyan of Aironjongla Pt-I. Under questioning, Bhuyan admitted to the theft of six pairs of earrings, four nose rings, and a gold bilet.

Bhuyan led investigators to a larger criminal network. Tapan Karmakar, a resident of Ward No. 6 in Gauripur, allegedly melted the gold to hide its origin. The operation involved Shyamol Ray of Ward No. 2, who coordinated the deal. Police said, "The interrogation uncovered a network involved in handling the stolen property."

The stolen loot ended up at Hari Om Gold and Silver Testing Centre. Proprietor Harish C.H. Bhosle and employee Rupak Choudhury allegedly accepted the items. Police raided multiple locations on July 23, recovering all stolen ornaments. All five men remain in custody as legal proceedings move forward.
