NEIGRIHMS Boosts Capacity to 1,000 Beds

Shillong: NEIGRIHMS is ramping up its capacity to 1,000 beds. The institute wants to handle a surge of patients. Director Dr. Nalin Mehta confirmed expansion work is moving fast. He expects the project to wrap up by the end of the year.

A 150-bed critical care block comes via the PM-ABHIM scheme. Crews should finish that work between late this year and early next year. The institute currently runs 600 beds. This expansion brings the total count to 1,000.

The facility is also opening a 252-bed Regional Cancer Centre in phases. Radiation and scanning services are already live for the public. "The operation theatres will be made functional soon," according to Dr. Mehta. The upgrades mark a major shift for the Shillong healthcare hub.
