Shillong: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai opened a new 10-bed Urban Primary Health Centre in Lumparing this Saturday. The three-story facility cost 4.13 crore rupees to build. It replaces the long commutes residents previously endured to reach city hospitals.
The health center serves three Dorbar Shnongs. It provides essential maternity and child health services to the neighborhood. The local Dorbar Shnong donated 5,500 square feet of land to make the project possible. Shullai noted the impact on the community. "The project would greatly benefit the people of Lumparing," he said.
State officials signed a deal with the Dorbar Shnong to prioritize locals during staff recruitment. Students and health department staff attended the inauguration ceremony. The new unit brings care closer to home for the area.

Funding for the 4.13 crore rupee project came from the Special Plan Assistance Scheme 2023-24. While local Dorbar Shnong involvement was previously noted, official records confirm the Lumparing Social and Cultural Club provided the 6,000 square feet of land. Shullai highlighted that the facility specifically targets the area's economically weaker population.
Key officials at the ceremony included Director of Health Services Dr. N.E. Kharsahnoh and District Medical and Health Officer Dr. A.J. Kharduit. The project received backing from the Rangbah Shnongs of Lower Lumparing, Upper Lumparing, and Kynjat-Phutbol Riat Laban.
