Shillong: The Khasi Students’ Union is fighting the upcoming Governing Council meeting at NEIGRIHMS. They want answers on recruitment fraud first. KSU president Raymond Kharjana and general secretary Reuben Najiar sent a formal letter to the institute. The union rejected the institute's previous reply as a bogus justification. They are angry because the administration asked the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare to schedule the meeting while local grievances persist.
The union lists several major complaints. They cite lower age limits and a mandatory two-year experience requirement at a 50-bedded hospital for Nursing Officers. They also dislike the high number of OBC and SC candidates coming from outside Meghalaya. The KSU claims an 80:20 female-to-male ratio in hiring hurts local men. The switch to Computer Based Tests also forces indigenous applicants to travel far.
Administrative failures remain a sore spot. The union points to a May 5, 2025 meeting regarding a March 22, 2025 advertisement. The institute wrongly listed EWS posts as backlog vacancies. This violates DoPT guidelines. The KSU demands a corrected advertisement and a fix for roster register issues. The administration has done nothing since March 2025.
Safety is also on the line. A 15-year-old girl was allegedly molested at the hospital. The KSU accuses the administration of shielding the accused Nursing Officer. They want him fired or suspended immediately. The union also blasted a group of Nursing Officers who gathered outside the Director’s office to support the accused. They called the protest an institutional failure. Indigenous women are not safe. The union promised utmost resistance if the institute moves ahead without fixing these problems.
