Shillong: Meghalaya officials took a hard line against the Khasi Students’ Union on September 9. The government rejected threats of protest following the August 19 incident. Home Minister Prestone Tynsong declared that law enforcement will not ignore illegal actions from any organization or individual. He demanded order across the state.
"Any illegal activity cannot be appreciated at all, be it anybody," Tynsong said. He emphasized that the administration cannot remain silent when public order is at stake. The warning follows complaints from the KSU regarding recent arrests of their members.
Despite the friction, plans for facilitation centers at Umling and Ratacherra continue. Tynsong confirmed the Ri-Bhoi district administration is organizing a site inspection for the Umling project. The Deputy Commissioner holds responsibility for this process. The state intends to bolster its border presence through these new facilities.
