KSU Vice-President Pynkmenlang Sanmiet Granted Medical Bail

Shillong: A local court granted KSU vice-president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet 20 days of interim bail on Wednesday. Sanmiet walked out of Shillong District Jail after the judge cited medical grounds for the release. The leader needs time to return to his doctors for a specific procedure.

Sanmiet has struggled with health issues since July. He spent time in Bethany Hospital before his arrest. Doctors previously told him to finish a medical procedure within six weeks, but he ended up behind bars before he could comply. "I was arrested before I could complete it. During these 20 days, I will try my best to consult the doctors who have been treating me at Bethany Hospital," he said.

His current condition includes high blood pressure, migraines, and severe headaches. He also suffers from frequent nose bleeding and shortness of breath. Despite these setbacks, he thanked the nursing staff and doctors at Shillong District Jail for their care while he remained in custody. The court order follows a similar release for KSU general secretary Reuben Najiar, who received 14 days of bail after his father died and returned to jail on October 1.

Sanmiet clarified that after his initial stint at Bethany Hospital in July, doctors discharged him only to order a follow-up exam two weeks later. It was those subsequent test results that pushed his specialists to mandate the procedure he is now pursuing under the 20-day court order.
