Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma rejected claims of a stalemate with the Khasi Students’ Union on Tuesday. Tensions remain high. Reports of attacks on government property across Shillong have surfaced recently. Sangma insisted that official talks are ongoing.
The Chief Minister signaled that his administration aims to resolve grievances from the KSU and other groups through open channels. He defended his record of engagement. "Wherever we found that concerns are genuine, we have never shied away from talking to whichever organisation it is," Sangma said.
Sangma drew a firm line regarding public order. He warned that lawbreakers will face consequences. He clarified that the government distinguishes between peaceful dialogue with organizations and criminal acts by individuals. He stated that the state will take necessary action against anyone violating the law regardless of their group affiliation.
The government remains committed to future discussions. Sangma promised to keep doors open to resolve ongoing problems through talk rather than force.
