Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced an Rs 8 crore infrastructure overhaul for Gossaigaon Higher Secondary School in Kokrajhar. This plan aims to boost facilities at the institution, which holds a storied place in local educational history.

The school sits on 16 bighas of land. It opened in 1947 thanks to the efforts of the late Tara Charan Majumdar. Authorities provincialised the campus on April 1, 1964, and pushed it to the Higher Secondary level by 1991. The site remains a pillar of regional growth. It has produced alumni who hit the big time in politics, culture, and literature.

Currently, the school handles 1,490 students ranging from Ka Shreni to Class 12. Its Higher Secondary section offers only an Arts stream. A workforce of 45 teachers and five non-teaching staff keeps the operation running. Pegu shared the news on X, stating, "The infrastructure upgrade is aimed at improving facilities at the institution, which has a long-standing place in the educational history of the region."
