Students Stage Sit-In Protest at CIT Kokrajhar Over Food Safety

Guwahati: The Bodo National Students Union launched a two-day sit-in protest at the Central Institute of Technology in Kokrajhar. Students want safer food. They demand better hostel facilities and a total overhaul of the institute administration.

The protest escalated after students at the Gambari Sikhla Girls Hostel fell ill on September 26. They ate food served under unhygienic conditions. Medical teams treated the sick students immediately. A separate demonstration occurred on campus this past Monday to highlight the lack of accountability.

The union submitted a seven-point charter to the institute leadership. Their demands include the removal of officiating Registrar Professor Hemanta Kumar Kalita. They also seek the appointment of a new permanent Registrar, a permanent Director, and a Chairperson for the Governing Body.

BoNSU adviser Manonjoy Daimary remains firm. He stated, "The organisation would continue its agitation until the authorities take appropriate action on its demands." The standoff continues as the student group pushes for immediate institutional reform.
