Guwahati: Assam teachers are preparing for a showdown with the state government. Ratul Goswami, president of the Primary Teachers' Association, announced that educators will launch fresh protests if their long-pending demands go ignored. The All Assam Students' Union plans to back the teachers if they take to the streets.

The association demands the immediate restoration of scholarship examinations. Teachers are also fed up with being forced to pay for school infrastructure out of their own pockets. Goswami blasted the current system, stating: "The government must bring back the system." He argued that teachers are being turned into involuntary contractors.

Funding for the mid-day meal scheme has stalled. Local shopkeepers now refuse to give teachers credit for food supplies. Beyond classroom operations, the group is pushing for the 8th Pay Commission to cover everyone, including ministers and legislators. They also want the Old Pension Scheme reinstated and a new cashless medical plan for staff. The state has until the next round of talks to fix these issues before the agitation hits the streets.
