Assam Teachers Protest Over Mandatory Salary Module

Guwahati: More than 100 teachers gathered outside the District Education Officer office in Silchar on August 7. Members of the Assam State Primary Teachers Association held a one-hour protest to force a rollback of the SND SPARSH module requirement. This new system makes the module mandatory for VO-SRD teachers to receive their monthly pay. The teachers want it gone.

Protesters filled the street with placards and loud slogans against the state government and the Education Minister. They claim the module creates pointless administrative baggage and will stall timely payments. These teachers already deal with lingering pay issues. They argued that bringing these concerns to officials in the past yielded nothing. The association leaders stated, "The issue directly affects the livelihoods of teachers and urged the government to address their grievances without further delay."

The sit-in served as a warning shot. Association leadership promised a larger statewide movement if the state refuses to pull the order and fix existing pay problems. The teachers remain firm. They will keep the pressure on until the government meets their demands.
