Assam Education Minister Fixes Delayed Teacher Pay

Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu promised regularised teachers on August 6 that their pay is safe. Payments for former contract staff under Samagra Shiksha Assam faced a temporary holdup. The delay stems from fresh financial reforms hitting the state treasury payment system. Teachers will get their money in two days.

Pegu met with the SRD Teachers Welfare Forum and the All Assam Primary Teachers Association to address mounting anxiety. He stated, "There is no problem regarding the salaries of these teachers. Although there has been a slight delay this month, they will receive their salaries within the next two days as they did earlier."

The state moved salary processing to the FinAssam portal to streamline accounting. Staff previously relied on district treasuries for pay. Now, the Dispur Treasury handles the monthly credit. Pegu confirmed that service conditions remain locked in. Regularised employees keep all benefits tied to government status.

The minister brushed off fears of permanent change. He insisted the shift to FinAssam is purely procedural. Future pay slips and monthly deposits will run through this new system without further interruption. Pegu asked the teaching staff to keep their cool while the state clears the transition.
