Guwahati: Over 15,000 teachers descended on the Directorate of Elementary Education in Kahilipara, Guwahati, on Monday, September 7. The group, representing 15,029 State Recruitment Drive teachers, demanded an immediate halt to the proposed shift toward the SNA-SPARSH salary module. They want their paychecks to remain under the existing system.
Teachers from every corner of Assam filled the streets to confront officials. They grilled the department on why the change was necessary. Suranjana Senapati, the Director of Elementary Education, stepped out to face the crowd. She blamed the shift on technical bugs.
Senapati promised that the government is currently talking to Education Minister Ranoj Pegu and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to fix the mess. She noted, "The decision to introduce the SNA-SPARSH module had been necessitated by technical issues." She hinted that the old system might stay if the tech problems clear up.
Representatives from the primary teachers association eventually ended the protest. They handed a formal memorandum to the directorate and held additional talks with Education Department staff to push their demands. The state awaits a final decision on the payout mechanism.
