Mizoram Teachers Burn Orders in Protest Against School Policy

Aizawl: Teachers converged on Aizawl this Wednesday to torch official government orders. They are furious. Members of the Mizoram Government Adhoc-Aided High School Teachers Association burned paperwork that revoked the provincialisation status of their schools and shifted some to the Lumpsum Grant-in-Aid category. These institutions rely on state financial help to operate.

Association president F. Vanlalchhuanga slammed the new regulations for weakening school administration despite promises of better pay. He told the crowd, "We demand that the government immediately withdraw these new rules."

The protest follows a series of disruptions across Mizoram. Teachers wore black badges on July 21 and 22, held a No Teaching Day on July 23 and 24, and took mass casual leave on July 27 and 28. The current sit-in will last until Friday. MIGAHTA warned of heavier agitation if officials ignore them.

The Mizo Zirlai Pawl student group is trying to bridge the gap. Education Minister Vanlalthlana met with student leaders at their Aizawl office on Wednesday to seek a fix. MZP assistant general secretary Lalentlinga hopes for a deal to save the academic calendar.
