Guwahati: Protesters gathered at Bhowal Point in Silchar on Thursday, August 13, to condemn disparaging comments aimed at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Hindutva leader Mithun Nath spearheaded the demonstration. The crowd burned an effigy of Nagendra Roy, widely known as Ananta Maharaj, a resident of Cooch Behar in West Bengal.
The outrage stems from a public speech where Maharaj allegedly questioned the role of Bose and the Azad Hind Fauj in India's fight for independence. Protesters labeled the remarks unacceptable. They filed a formal complaint at the Silchar Sadar Police Station.
The written complaint alleges that the speaker publicly insulted Bose and denigrated the history of the freedom struggle. It further warns that these provocative statements could trigger social tension. The group is demanding an FIR and strict legal action against the man. "The protesters condemned the alleged remarks and said they were unacceptable." Authorities now face calls to protect the historical legacy of India’s freedom fighters.
