Guwahati: Protesters in Assam are digging in their heels. They refuse to let the government turn 550 hectares of the Rakshasini Reserved Forest into an industrial park. Residents say the move favors wealthy outsiders while ignoring the people who actually live there.
Tribal groups, including Rabhas and Bodos, have worked this soil for decades. Many locals are survivors of riverbank erosion who still lack legal land titles. The community claims officials use forest protection as an excuse to kick out the poor while handing the same land to corporations.
The group submitted a formal memorandum to the Goalpara Deputy Commissioner. They want the Land Advisory Board to scrap the industrial plan during their next session. Protesters are not backing down.
They vowed to escalate their response if the state stays the course. Organizers promised a wave of civil disobedience, stating, "Jail Bharo" protests, would be organised in the coming days. The standoff continues as residents wait for the board to act.

Beyond the threat of mass arrests, the movement has stiffened its resolve. Protesters issued a stark warning that they are ready to face severe consequences as they dig in to protect the land and guard the interests of those currently left without rights.
