Guwahati: A 52-year-old BJP booth president is dead. Police found the body of Bikash Ranjan Dhar near a pond in Jogichhara on Friday. He lived in Chagalmowa village and vanished on August 12 after leaving his home on a motorcycle. His family reported him missing when he failed to return.

Investigators tracked Dhar through his phone records. They detained six people in connection with the killing. Two key suspects are aged 24 and 30. During the roundup, one suspect attacked a constable with a sharp weapon while trying to escape. Officers fired their weapons, wounding the man in his left leg before taking him back into custody.

Authorities believe the killing was not political. "Preliminary findings suggest that the murder was the result of personal enmity," a senior police officer stated. The discovery of the body ignited riots in Chagalmowa and Bazaricherra. Mobs engaged in vandalism and burned shops to the ground.

District officials clamped down on the area with Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. This order bans public gatherings to stop further violence. Additional Superintendent of Police Trinayan Bhuyan confirmed that the situation is now under control. Police are still hunting for more answers as the investigation continues.
