Missing BJP Leader Found Dead Near Assam Border

Guwahati: Bikash Dhar is dead. The 52-year-old BJP booth president and social worker was discovered inside an abandoned house in the Jogichora area on Friday, August 14. He had been missing for two days.

Dhar lived in Chagalmowa village and fell under the jurisdiction of the Bazaricherra police station. His family reported him missing after he left on his motorcycle Wednesday following a phone call. His phone went dead shortly after. The body now sits at the Sribhumi district headquarters hospital for a post-mortem exam.

Multiple injury marks cover the victim. Police suspect foul play. Local MLA and state minister Krishnendu Paul visited the family Thursday to push for answers.

Sribhumi SSP Leena Doley confirmed that all suspects are now in custody. The situation turned violent during the investigation. One detainee attacked a police officer, forcing officers to open fire. Sribhumi SSP Leena Doley said, "Police then fired at the suspect's leg to prevent him from fleeing, following which he was taken to a hospital for treatment."

Grief grips the Sribhumi district. Residents are demanding a full investigation and swift justice. Authorities continue to dig for the motive behind the killing.
