Guwahati: Police detained more than 100 protesters in Dhubri on August 10. The group rallied from the local railway station before officers stopped them on Station Road. Authorities held the activists at the Dhubri Police Station following the disruption. This action came as members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, All India Kisan Sabha, All India Democratic Women's Association, Democratic Youth Federation of India, and Students' Federation of India marched against the BJP-led Centre.
Protesters labeled the current government agenda as anti-worker and anti-farmer. They claimed the movement honors the 1942 Quit India spirit to fight corporate-driven policies. These groups allege that the state is slashing pensions, medical benefits, and wage protections. Small industries are failing while permanent jobs vanish in favor of contract work. The organizers claim that while corporate profits soar, the purchasing power of the average citizen is falling. One joint statement argued that the state is systematically stripping away the rights of working people.
The agitators also took aim at land disputes and eviction drives. They cited removals from Parbatjhora to the Kaziranga area as examples of displacement. Furthermore, the groups opposed the eviction of the Tiwa community to make way for satellite cities, arguing these moves only benefit big business. The coalition called on the public to unite against what they see as exploitation and the suppression of democratic rights.
