Guwahati: AASU members swarmed the Tingkhong Electrical Sub-Divisional Office on Friday, August 14. They demanded an end to constant, irregular power cuts. The joint force of the Tingkhong, Rajgarh, and Lengeri units shut down the facility. They wanted answers.
Protesters chanted slogans against the power department throughout the demonstration. They claim the department cuts electricity for hours without any warning. Clear weather does not stop the outages. The heat is intense. Residents, small business owners, and students are struggling to cope with the daily disruptions.
Student leaders blasted the local officials for failing to act. They are sick of empty talk. "The student leaders expressed anger over what they described as repeated verbal assurances from officials without any lasting solution to the problem."
The group handed over a formal memorandum to the authorities. They expect immediate fixes to the region's power grid. Similar protests are popping up across Assam as heat waves continue to strain the electrical supply.
