Assam BJP leader Mriganka Deo Barman named to national role

Guwahati: Assam BJP leader Mriganka Deo Barman secured a spot as a National Secretary for the Bharatiya Janata Party. Party president Nitin Nabin dropped the news on August 17. The changes hit the books immediately. Barman joins 15 others in the role, including Kavita Patidar, K. Surendran, Dr Bhola Singh, Dr Pradip Varma, Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel, Dr Sandeep Pathak, Phangnon Konyak, Sangeeta Yadav, Anil Antony, Dr M Venkateshan, Manoj Tigga, Siddharth Shambhu, Dr Swadesh Singh, Rohan Gupta, and Jai Prakash.

Barman brings serious resume depth to the table. He previously served as General Secretary for the BJP in Assam and ran the state’s Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. He holds ties to the sports world too. He acts as Vice President of the Assam Olympic Association and President of the Assam Youth Forum. He also ran the Assam Table Tennis Association. The party stated the overhaul covers the national leadership and organisational machinery, including its media, social media, and morcha wings.

The reshuffle stretches across the entire party map. Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Tirath Singh Rawat, Ram Madhav, Baijayant Jay Panda, D Purandeshwari, Rekha Verma, Varshaben Narendrabhai Doshi, Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar, Manpreet Singh Badal, Lal Singh Arya, Prof M Nagaraja, Prof Tariq Mansoor, and Dr Madhuchandra Kar took spots as National Vice Presidents. BL Santosh stepped in as National General Secretary for Organisation, with Shivprakash and Saudan Singh serving as Joint General Secretaries. Vinod Tawde, Sunil Bansal, Biplab Kumar Deb, Smriti Irani, Dr Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi, and Sanjay Bhatia fill the General Secretary slots.

New regional leadership emerged. Dr Sambit Patra will coordinate the Northeast, backed by joint coordinator Rajiv Babbar. Piyush Goyal will handle the treasury, while Rajesh Mangal takes the joint treasurer role. Tarun Chugh will manage the Central Office, supported by secretary Mahendra Pandey. According to a central office release issued on August 17, 2026, the sweeping changes aim to refine the national organisational structure.
