Shillong: The BJP is plotting a comeback in Meghalaya. The party has never held more than two seats in the state legislative assembly. Party leaders now claim they have decoded the local hurdles keeping them in the minority. They want a bigger footprint.
BJP MLA AL Hek confirmed the party ran an internal survey to probe their poor performance. The findings show deep-rooted issues. Hek said, "We have realised that it is a complex situation, and we will solve it one by one."
Critics argue the party's current two seats rest entirely on the personal appeal of Hek and Sanbor Shullai. They suggest the party brand holds little weight on its own. The BJP wants to change that. Hek claims several sitting and former MLAs will jump ship to join the party soon.
The names remain a secret for now. Hek plans to announce the new arrivals roughly six months before the next election. He also wants a fresh face for the party, calling for younger leaders to step up and enter the political fray.
