Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari confirmed that election officials must verify the details of 651,644 voters during the current Special Intensive Revision. This audit includes 222,786 voters in the No Mapping category and 428,858 individuals whose details fail to align with previous electoral rolls. The task is massive. Tiwari met with Deputy Commissioners, District Election Officers, and registration staff via video conference to finalize the strategy.
The review follows the publication of draft electoral rolls for all 60 Assembly constituencies on August 5. Officials are targeting discrepancies in parent-child age gaps, inconsistent data on birth records, and cases flagged by the ECINET system. Tiwari issued a strict directive to all Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers to follow the law before taking action.
"Nipiltaina nangengani gimin ian bimingrangko den·galgen indake ong·jawa ine talataniko on·angengon, nipilna nangenggipa voter sakantian u·iataniko man·sochenggen aro ERO ba AERO-rangko gronge, an·tangtangni lekkarangko mesokna cholko man·gen," Tiwari stated. Officials will not delete names without providing notice and conducting formal hearings.
The department also published lists of absent, shifted, deceased, and duplicate voters on official websites. Public claims and objections remain open from August 5 until September 4. Following a series of mandatory hearings, the final electoral roll will be published on October 7.
