Shillong: Meghalaya election authorities have flagged 651,644 voters for mandatory verification hearings. This effort follows a review of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision. Officials identified 222,786 records that failed to map to 2005 data. Another 428,858 cases show discrepancies detected by the ECINET system.

Technical errors include mismatched names, suspicious age gaps between parents and children, and unrealistic sibling birth intervals. Officials also flagged cases where more than six children link to a single parent. Chief Electoral Officer review meetings occurred on August 18 with district leadership to manage the hearing workload. Notices are now circulating across the state.

The department addressed concerns regarding potential removals during a Tuesday meeting with political parties. The Election Department stated, "no name appearing in the Draft Electoral Roll will be deleted without due process, including issuance of notice and an opportunity for a hearing." Voters must attend scheduled hearings with documentation to secure their registration.

Political parties have deployed 1,810 Booth Level Agents to assist with this process. The National People’s Party leads with 724 agents. The BJP has 401, the VPP has 320, the Congress has 186, the UDP has 121, and the AITC has 58. These agents help voters navigate the claims and objections process.

Public records show 4,091 new applications since the draft roll went live. This includes 1,847 inclusion requests, 144 objections, and 2,100 total shift or correction filings. Electoral Roll Observers will visit districts to track progress. The claims window closes September 4. Final rolls arrive October 7.
