Shillong: Meghalaya election authorities have officially ruled out any extensions for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. House-to-house verification must wrap up by July 29, and officials warned that anyone missing this window faces exclusion from the upcoming draft electoral roll. The state plans to publish the draft on August 5, followed by a claims and objections period running through September 4, with final publication slated for October 7.
As of July 21, the state has distributed 23,06,605 enumeration forms, hitting 98.17 per cent coverage of the 23,49,645 total electors. Authorities have already digitised 14,07,446 of those forms. West Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, and South West Garo Hills hit the 100 per cent distribution mark. West Khasi Hills leads in digitisation at 79.86 per cent.
Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari urged citizens to cooperate, stating: "A·doko niam gita pu·onna man·gipa mande sakantikon BLO-rang baksa bakrimchina chinga mol·molatenga aro an·tangtangni bimingrangko Draft Electoral Roll-rango segatna somoi gita an·tangtangni enumeration form-rangko on·china didiatenga." Voters should hand forms to Booth Level Officers or use the ECINET app or the official election portal.
The department identified 53,908 electors under Absentee, Shifted, Deceased, and Duplicate categories. This includes 5,795 absentee voters, 13,379 who have shifted, 32,382 deceased individuals, 2,029 duplicate entries, and 323 people who refused to accept forms. All these cases will be handled according to the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, with verification and hearings provided where necessary.
Tiwari met with representatives from major parties including the NPP, UDP, Congress, BJP, VPP, and TMC to coordinate. Political parties have deployed 892 Booth Level Agents to assist in the process. Residents who previously submitted online do not need to provide physical copies, and those appearing on the 2005 electoral roll are exempt from providing fresh documentary proof.
