Shillong: Meghalaya election officials have finished 82.31 per cent of hearings for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. They processed 5,36,468 cases out of 6,51,735 total notices. So far, 542 electors failed to prove eligibility for the final roll. Chief Electoral Officer B.D.R. Tiwari led a virtual review of the progress on September 15.
Of the issued notices, 6,46,397 reached their targets. Another 5,190 remain undelivered. Officials sorted 2,22,786 cases as having no mapping and 4,28,949 as having mapping discrepancies. Tiwari ordered local staff to pick up the pace but warned against rushing residents. The Election Department explicitly stated, "receiving a notice does not automatically mean that an elector's name will be removed from the electoral roll."
Voters who missed their first hearing get another shot. Staff must grant everyone a fair chance to produce documents. Since the draft roll hit the streets, the state received 17,061 total applications. This includes 9,343 Form 6 requests for inclusion, 1,076 Form 7 forms, and 6,642 total Form 8 requests covering shifts and corrections.
Political parties have deployed 1,814 Booth Level Agents to assist in the process. The National People's Party leads with 736 agents, followed by the BJP with 393, the VPP with 320, the INC with 186, the UDP with 121, and the AITC with 58. The deadline to file claims and objections is September 18. Officials will continue hearings until October 17. The final electoral roll drops on October 21, 2026.
