Shillong: The North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach brought new tech to the table in Shillong this Tuesday. NECTAR officials met with the Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee to outline scientific solutions for the region. They want results. Director General Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma detailed plans for expanding saffron cultivation across Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Mizoram through specific scientific intervention.
Farmers in remote areas are getting a lift. NECTAR showcased a Mobile Food Processing Unit capable of handling raw materials through to final bottling and packaging. This hardware aims to cut post-harvest losses while padding local wallets. The project aims for efficiency. Following the session, attendees toured the Vasundhara Soil Lab, STEM Lab, and GIS Lab to see how geospatial data addresses local hurdles.
The Press Information Bureau of Shillong organized the meet to sync government departments with media units. Representatives from IIM Shillong, ICAR-Umiam, and NEEPCO joined the talks to refine outreach. The group agreed on one administrative move for the fall. "It was also decided that all participating departments would observe Hindi Diwas and Hindi Fortnight in September 2026 through various programmes to encourage the use of the language in official communication."
