Kohima: Experts gathered at the School of Engineering and Technology in the Kohima Campus of Nagaland University on August 10. They kicked off AIGS-2026, a two-day international seminar-cum-workshop. The event focuses on artificial intelligence for green sustenance. It covers agriculture, environmental humanities, and pedagogy.
The Department of Agricultural Engineering leads the event. It collaborates with the Departments of Teacher Education and English. Sponsors include the ANRF, the Government of India, and Nagaland University. Organizers want to explore tech in the hills of Northeast India. Attendees will discuss smart farming and indigenous knowledge. They will also cover climate resilience.
Pro-vice chancellor Prof N Venuh opened the event. He released the seminar souvenir and abstract book. He pushed for a balance between technology and local culture. He noted the struggle of modern resource management. "When there is water scarcity, how do we generate? Artificially you cannot create water," Venuh said. He urged scholars to find innovations that protect the environment.
Prof Sujata Dash, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, pointed to the future. She wants AI to make society more resilient. She emphasized merging local knowledge with modern engineering. Dash credited the event conveners: Prof Prabhakar Sharma, Dr Subhashis Banerjee, and Dr Prasenjit Pal.
Virtual addresses came from Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, and Prof Saroj Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University. They highlighted the role of interdisciplinary work in meeting goals for Viksit Bharat @2047. The seminar wraps up on August 11.
