Kohima: Nagaland University concluded its two-day international seminar, AIGS-2026, on August 11 at the School of Engineering and Technology in Kohima. The hybrid event drew researchers from India and across the globe to debate the intersection of artificial intelligence, environmental health, and agriculture. Convened by Prof. Prabhakar Sharma, Dr. Subhashis Banerjee, and Dr. Prasenjit Pal, the conference received sponsorship from the Anusandhan National Research Foundation and the university.
The event kicked off with a plenary lecture from Prof. Shyam S. Phartyal of Mizoram University. He emphasized a multi-faceted approach to modern challenges. He stated, "Citizen Science in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Bridging Science, Humanities, and Education for Green Sustenance." Following this, Prof. Nigamananda Das analyzed the ecological footprint of machine learning tools.
Technical tracks covered a massive range of topics. Experts scrutinized greenhouse-gas emissions in hydropower, smart agriculture, and chemical research. International contributors included Prof. Amit Kumar from Nanjing University, Prof. Pierre Girard from Brazil, and Dr. Subhajyoti Samaddar from Kyoto University. These experts addressed pressing issues like microplastic pollution and climate-resilience.
A dedicated poster session highlighted practical applications. Participants presented research on solar-powered farm gear, AI-enabled hydroponics, and indigenous pest management. The humanities sessions were just as diverse. Scholars discussed the decolonization of classrooms, spiritual ecology in literature, and the impact of digital tools on critical thinking.
The final sessions moved into specific regional and technical data. Scientists presented findings on kiwifruit cultivation in Arunachal Pradesh, nitrate pollution in groundwater, and sustainable pineapple farming in Nagaland. Prof. Santosh Kumar Singh presided over the closing ceremony, followed by a formal vote of thanks from Dr. Subhashis Banerjee.

Beyond the primary presentations, the seminar lineup included a heavy roster of global experts. Prof. Ashutosh Tripathi covered environmental monitoring, while Prof. Ambrish Singh tackled AI in chemical research. Prof. Joginder Singh spoke on Bio-AI convergence, and Nikhil Nikas focused on blockchain applications for agriculture. Education experts including Prof. Ranjan Das, Prof. Gyanendra Nath Tiwari, Prof. Rajnish Ratna, and Prof. Pradipta Kumar Pattnaik weighed in on NEP 2020, digital integration, and agro-ecotourism.
Technical sessions spanned far beyond initial reports. Experts debated PFAS contamination, biochar, and nutrient transport. Humanities scholars pushed the discussion into poetry from Northeast India, posthuman ecofeminism, and digital travel narratives. Researchers also brought local and global data to the table regarding watershed assessment, Zanthoxylum species, and immersive technologies designed for tribal schools.
