Kohima: Nagaland University officially expanded its footprint this week. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik opened six new facilities at the School of Agricultural Sciences in Medziphema. The event took place on September 4, drawing faculty, staff, and students.
The expansion includes two Experiential Learning Programme units for horticulture and livestock management. The university also added a modern piggery project, a horticulture research laboratory, a Naga Morung, and a new sports complex. They launched feed production units for both the Medziphema and Kohima campuses, with the latter opened through a virtual link.
These projects aim to bridge the divide between theory and field work. Students now have better access to scientific livestock training and agricultural research. The Naga Morung serves to protect cultural history. The sports facility targets student wellness.
Patnaik pushed for higher standards during the ceremony. He expects the school to chase top national rankings. "I am looking forward to more active research, innovation and publications from our faculty and researchers," he said. The university now looks to turn these buildings into hubs for academic and extension work.
