Kohima: Nagaland University officially brought its new postgraduate and PhD cohort into the fold on August 19. The School of Engineering and Technology held the orientation event at the Kohima Campus in Meriema. Students from the M.Sc Biotechnology program joined M.Tech students focusing on Information Technology, Data Science, and Food Process Engineering. The incoming PhD class also represented Biotechnology, Information Technology, and Agricultural Engineering and Technology.
Prof Pranav Kumar Prabhakar opened the day as the induction committee convener. He told the students to use the facilities and interdisciplinary tools provided by the school. A round of introductions and ice-breaking followed his speech, allowing researchers and students to mingle. This session helped the group connect across their various academic backgrounds as they began their university careers.
Prof Sujata Dash, the Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, addressed the crowd. She stressed that interdisciplinary approaches are necessary to solve modern problems. She noted, "Interdisciplinary approaches are increasingly essential to addressing complex scientific, technological and societal challenges." The event underscored that innovation and academic excellence drive the school's research culture.
