Kohima Official Urges University Students to Seize Opportunities

Kohima: Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem told new students to stop waiting for perfect circumstances. The official addressed the 33rd Freshers' Meet 2026 at AGOK Badze in Meriema on Friday. He spoke to students of the Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, about the power of decisive action. The event centered on the theme, "KAIROS – The Perfect Moment Begins Now."

Buchem shared his own path into public service. He detailed his early struggle to pass the Nagaland Public Service Commission examination. He faced failure once before finding success. He pushed students to prioritize personal growth and critical thinking. He wants them to join debates and literary competitions to sharpen their skills.

The Deputy Commissioner set firm boundaries for the new batch. He told them to use technology and artificial intelligence with care. He warned against gambling, substance abuse, and misinformation. He also asked for a reduction in social media use. Students carry a duty beyond their degrees. They must protect the reputation of Nagaland University through their character and behavior.

The event schedule included an invocation from Meshao Shiu and a welcome address by NUSU-KC President Putusunep Jamir. Loviboli Aye gave a presentation, and the Department of English performed a song. Kivini S Zhimomi represented the freshers with a speech, while Dr. Pucho Kiso offered a prayer of blessings. General Secretary Jomithung Ngullie thanked the crowd, and Minuka Pradhan finished with a benediction. Buchem requested that senior students guide the newcomers to build a supportive community.
